Freya is the second Keeper of Ulduar on the left when coming down the stairs after killing Kologarn. It is required to defeat her and all 3 other Keepers to move on to the Descent into Madness part of the raid.

Boss Mechanics

Phase 1

In Phase 1, Freya receives healing every second from Touch of Eonar (10-man) or Touch of Eonar (25-man). This combined with Attuned to Nature starting out at 150 stacks made it impossible to dps Freya at all during Phase 1 at level 80. A few level raid-ready level 90s can out-dps her healing if everyone ignores the mobs that spawn and just focuses on her. However, you probably still want to have a tank pick ups these ads and keep them from running rampant.

If you don’t have enough dps, you will need to follow the intended tactics of the fight and kill the waves of mobs that spawn to reduce her stacks of Attuned to Nature. There are 3 different types of waves and each wave will spawn twice. The waves can spawn in any order and once each wave has been killed twice, the fight will transition to Phase 2.

On top of the mobs that spawn in each wave, trees called Eonar’s Gift will spawn every once in a while and heal Freya and all other wave mobs with Lifebinder’s Gift (10-man) or Lifebinder’s Gift (25-man).

Here is each type of wave that will spawn.

Detonating Lasher

One type of mob wave is a group of 10 Detonating Lashers which explode when killed. At level 90 you shouldn’t need to kill the lashers from a distance to avoid the explosions like you would at level 80. Just burn them down and wait for the next wave to spawn. If you don’t have a healer or are soloing the encounter, consider using a defensive cooldown to avoid taking a lot of damage all at once.

Ancient Conservator

In the Ancient Conservator wave, raid members will be inflicted with Conservator’s Grip causing them to be unable to attack unless under one of the mushrooms that spawn. Stand under the mushrooms until the Conservator is killed.

Storm Lasher, Snaplasher, and Ancient Water Spirit

The last type of wave that will spawn is a single Storm Lasher, Snaplasher, and Ancient Water Spirit. None of their abilities should cause much trouble at level 90, the only annoying one is the Ancient Water Spirit with it’s charge ability that knocks you back a bit. However note that all 3 mobs must die within a few seconds of each other or they will respawn at full health.

Phase 2

Once each type of wave has been killed twice, Phase 2 will initiate. If all the mobs in all 6 waves were killed, Freya will have 0 stacks of Attuned to Nature left. From here, the fight is a very simple burn and Freya should go down pretty quickly. Eonar’s Gifts will continue to spawn during Phase 2 should be killed immediately if you don’t have enough people to dps through the extra healing.

Here is a video of me soling Freya. It wasn’t very difficult because I was following the intended tactics of the fight and killed all the mobs in phase 1 while not really focusing on Freya. I made use of defensive cooldowns such as Evasion and Cloak of Shadows to mitigate damage from the waves of mobs throughout phase 1.

Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood

There are 3 elders in the Conservatory of Life this will give Freya extra buffs if they are not killed. Leaving them all up is considered Hard Mode and will result in the Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood achievement required for the proto-drake. Here is each elder and the buffs they give Freya when left alive.

Leaving all 3 elders up does significantly add to the amount of damage Freya inflicts, however this achievement can be soloed by tanks or classes with decent self heals. If you cannot solo the achievement, consider bringing a tank or healer to help with the damage.

For her added damaging attacks, Iron Roots will probably be the most annoying but they can be attacked and killed to free raid members. You will also see beams of light that shine around the raid every once in a while from Freya’s added ability Solar Flare, don’t stand in them to avoid extra damage.

When completing Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood you will also earn the following achievements.

Here is narrated video guide on how to solo Hard Mode Freya on 10-man.

Other Achievements

Here is a full list of other achievements that can be earned from Freya. I link the 10-man achievements but the exact same ones are available on 25-man also.

Lumberjacked

Lumberjacked is earned by killing all 3 of the elders within 15 seconds of each other. To do this, simply bring the 3 elders together and AOE them down together. Their abilities shouldn’t be too overwhelming for a single level 90 tank. This achievement cannot be completed in the same week as any of the Knock on Wood achievements.

Con-speed-atory

Con-speed-atory is earned by defeating Freya within 20 minutes of killing the first trash mobs in the Conservatory of Life. Even a solo level 90 should earn this achievement pretty easily. There is only about 4 packs of trash that need to be cleared before pulling Freya, so the only reason to not get this achievement is if you wipe on your first attempt. This achievement has no contradictions with any other achievement.

Deforestation

Deforestation is earned by killing 2 Storm Lashers, Snaplashers, and Ancient Water Spirits within 10 seconds of each other. For this, you will need to hold the first set of these mobs until the second set spawn.

Once you have 2 of each, AOE them down and make sure they’re all going down at about the same rate. Remember, the mobs need to die all together to stay dead anyway. So hopefully that will make the achievement easier if you accidently kill one before the others are at low enough health. This achievement has no contradictions with any other achievement.

Getting Back to Nature

Getting Back to Nature is earned by defeating Freya while she has at least 25 stacks of Attuned to Nature remaining. If you have a few level 90s you should be able to burn Freya down without killing any of the mob waves in Phase 1. This will effectively earn your group the achievement.

If you don’t have enough dps or don’t want to just burn Freya down, you will have to choose to not kill either the second Ancient Conservator or the second spawning of the Storm Lasher, Snaplasher, and Ancient Water Spirit. Killing the Detonating Lashers only removes 20 stacks of Attuned to Nature from Freya, so leaving this wave up is not an option because Freya will have only 20 stacks left. This achievement has no contradictions with any other achievement but if it’s done with Deforestation your only option will be to leave up the second Conservator.
